Not only has Green campaigner Tay Pitman been holding the council to account on climate change and air pollution this past week (and run the Great North Run), she's also been working hard to get Elswick Pool re-opened today
Almost four years ago, the pool was closed by the City Council. Tay, along with other concerned West End residents, got together and formed the Friends of Elswick Pool, secured funding and convinced the Council they could revitalise and reopen it. Today, after years of hard work - and last-minute pressure washing - the pool re-opens to the public
We're so impressed by what Tay and the whole team of Pool Trustees and supporters have achieved for their local community. Tay is right to say "you should never give up if something is worth fighting for!"
